Stock, bins, and movements

Overview

Inventory → Stock shows every SKU's position per location: on hand, available, reserved, and on order, with average cost and total value alongside. Locations are your warehouses (managed under Settings → Locations); bins are optional shelving inside one — use them when "which building" isn't a precise enough answer to "where is it".

Viewing requires inventory:read; posting movements requires inventory:write.

The movement ledger

Inventory → Movements is the ledger: every receipt, issue, transfer, and adjustment as an append-only row with quantity, cost, source, and who posted it. Balances are never edited directly — they are what the ledger adds up to, which is why a count that doesn't match the shelf is fixed with an adjustment (with a reason), not an override.

Moving-average cost

Stock is valued at moving-average cost: each receipt re-averages the SKU's unit cost from what you actually paid. The number feeds the dashboard's cost-exposure figures and gives returns and write-offs an honest value.

What flows in automatically

Two seams post movements without re-keying: goods receipts on purchase orders post receipts into the receiving warehouse (see Receiving goods), and RMA items dispositioned Restock at inspection return to stock. Both arrive in the ledger with their source attached, so every row answers "where did this come from".
