Products, SKUs, and units of measure

← All documentation

Overview

The item master lives at Inventory → SKUs (CATALOGUE module). Everything else references it — RMAs, requisitions, purchase orders, stock. Editing requires catalogue:write; viewing requires catalogue:read, and RMS users can search products when filing RMAs without extra grants.

Products and SKUs

A product carries a code, name, description, unit of measure, standard cost and currency, optional barcode, a warranty window in days (this is what RMA inspection snapshots warranty status from), images, and a status. A product can have variants — SKUs — each with its own code, name, and attributes like size or colour.

Units of measure

Units come pre-seeded with the common set and can be extended with custom units under Settings → Module settings. Every quantity in the platform — RMA items, requisition lines, stock — is a number in a unit, so get these right early.

Return reasons and CSV import

Return reasons are your org-defined catalogue of why goods come back (code + label, active/inactive); they power the reason picker at RMA intake and the outcome reasons at inspection. Products, warehouses, and reasons all support CSV batch import for first-time loading and bulk updates.
