Shipment tracking for returns
Overview
With shipment tracking enabled, Arthiva follows parcels on both legs of an RMA using live carrier data — no more pasting tracking numbers into carrier sites. Status updates arrive from the carrier automatically and show on the RMA detail page as the parcel moves.
Outbound completes, inbound prompts
The two directions are deliberately treated differently:
- Outbound legs (replacements, repaired items going back) auto-complete on a confirmed delivery scan — delivery to the customer is the fact that matters.
- Inbound legs (the customer's return) never auto-receive. A delivery scan says a box reached your dock — not what's inside it. Instead the RMA shows a ready-to-receive prompt so your team records the real contents and conditions.
Manual actions always win: receiving, cancelling, or manually completing a leg stops its tracking.
Carriers
Major carriers are tracked live. A few regional carriers are supported as link-outs only — the RMA still stores the tracking number and emails carry a deep link to the carrier's own page. Unrecognised carriers are never registered for live tracking.
Enabling it
Tracking is a per-workspace switch managed by your admin in the RMS module settings, off by default. Once on, new shipments with a recognised carrier and tracking number are registered automatically; nothing changes about how your team files RMAs.
